What happens when a field is required?
You might notice a star (*) next to certain fields when working with field mappings in Salesforce. This star indicates that Salesforce requires the field to contain a value for a record to be created, on the field security level. If a required field is left empty during this process, Salesforce will not allow the operation to be completed i.e. the record will not be created.
To help, we will automatically set several defaults for you if data is missing on the Mailchimp side but required in Salesforce, to ensure the record will process without error. :
- Contacts and Lead Last Name field: [Not Provided]
- Person Account Name field: If last name is not in the Mailchimp data, we will use the first name if available or set to [Not Provided]
- Lead Company field (if required): [Not Provided]
Note: You can override using [Not Provided] by setting a custom default value yourself.
For other Salesforce fields you have set to required, where data may be missing in the mapped Mailchimp merge field, you can define your own defaults. This ensures that the data aligns more closely with your business requirements, while complying with Salesforce’s mandatory field requirements.
Default values can be set directly on our field mappings screen in Salesforce.
You can also create default values directly in Mailchimp.
