What happens if a I delete a Salesforce Contact or Lead?
If you delete a Salesforce Contact or Lead that has a corresponding active Mailchimp member record nothing will happen unless you have enabled the Archive Mailchimp Member on Delete setting.
What does the "Archive Mailchimp Member on Delete" setting do?
This setting allows Mailchimp for Salesforce to automatically archive Mailchimp audience members when their corresponding Contact or Lead is deleted in Salesforce.
Where can I find this setting?
In Salesforce, go to Mailchimp Settings > General Settings > Advanced Options. The option is listed as "Archive Mailchimp Member on Delete".
Is the setting on or off by default?
It is off by default. This ensures the integration behaves the same way it always has unless you explicitly choose to enable the new behavior.
What happens when the setting is enabled?
When a Salesforce Contact or Lead is deleted, Mailchimp for Salesforce will automatically archive any linked Mailchimp audience member(s). Archiving in Mailchimp keeps the subscriber's history but removes them from the active audience, helping keep your lists clean and preventing unwanted messaging.
What happens when the setting is disabled?
Deleting a Contact or Lead in Salesforce will not change anything in Mailchimp. The associated Mailchimp audience member remains active unless manually archived or changed through another process.
Why would I enable this feature?
It helps maintain clean and synchronized data across both platforms. If your business regularly deletes outdated or duplicate records in Salesforce, enabling this feature ensures Mailchimp does not retain active audience members that no longer exist in Salesforce.
Does archiving delete the Mailchimp contact permanently?
No. Archiving preserves the contact's historical data in Mailchimp. Archived contacts can be unarchived later if needed, though Mailchimp may require that they re-opt in depending on your account settings.
