How do I set a Mailchimp audience member to deleted?

📋 Summary of the Problem

You want to delete a Mailchimp audience member, but you're not sure if this can be done through Salesforce or if there's a specific process to follow.

💡 The Solution

Mailchimp for Salesforce does not support setting audience members to a "deleted" status. Instead, the integration works with two alternative statuses that preserve member data while removing them from active audience participation.

Your options for removing members are:

1. Archive the Member (Recommended)

Archiving removes the member from your audience while preserving their subscription history and data in Mailchimp. This must be done directly in Mailchimp.

To archive a member, access their Mailchimp record from the Member Detail page (found in the Audience member list or on the Memberships component), then set their status to Archived in Mailchimp.

2. Unsubscribe the Member

Unsubscribing marks the member as opted out but keeps them in your system. This can be done through Salesforce by updating the member's subscription status.

What happens when you delete a Contact or Lead in Salesforce?

If the "Archive Mailchimp Member on Delete" setting is enabled in Mailchimp Settings, deleting a Contact or Lead in Salesforce will automatically update the corresponding Mailchimp audience member status to archived or unsubscribed. The member is not deleted from Mailchimp, their data is preserved.

Important note: The archived status will not sync to Salesforce until the primary sync runs (either by schedule or manually), or until you refresh the Memberships component.
