The primary sync pulls your Mailchimp members into Salesforce as local records, and several features read from those records. If it never runs, the features below stay empty or can't do their job.
• Data Wizard and archived members (important): The Data Wizard will resubscribe archived members that are in your import source, because the archived filter has no local records to check. See Why are archived members being set back to active?
• Mailchimp Memberships component (contact/lead): The list of a contact or lead's memberships is read from local records, so it stays empty. Subscribing someone from a contact still creates a local record, but those records will be incomplete and won't match Mailchimp.
• Mailchimp Activity component: Blank without a local member record.
• Field mappings in both directions: Mailchimp to Salesforce mappings never reach Salesforce. Salesforce to Mailchimp mappings can't push contact or lead edits to the Mailchimp member.
• Stored email activity (optional): Email activity isn't stored in Salesforce, so you can't report on it.
• Archiving members for deleted contacts: Mailchimp members aren't archived when their contact or lead is deleted, even with the setting turned on.
• Invocable actions: Flow actions that unsubscribe, tag or send events for a person can't find a member to act on. Subscribing still works.
• Email opt out: Mailchimp unsubscribes won't update the Email Opt Out field on contacts and leads.
Note: If you don't want users to see Mailchimp data in Salesforce, assign the Limited Access permission set instead of Standard or Full. It gives them what they need to trigger Salesforce to Mailchimp automation without showing them anything.
