How do I reparent a Mailchimp Member that's linked to the wrong Salesforce record?
If a Member record ends up linked to the wrong Contact or Lead, for example because of a matching issue or a duplicate record, you can clear that link and let the Member rematch to the correct one.
On the Member component or Audience list, open the Member's menu and choose Clear Salesforce Link. This removes the connection to the incorrect Contact or Lead without deleting the Member record itself. See a screenshot of this option here.
Once the link is cleared, the Member is available to rematch through any of the following:
- Data Wizard: run an import that matches the Member to the correct record.
- Manage Lists on the Membership component: manually relate the Member to the correct Contact or Lead.
- Primary Sync: let the next scheduled sync rematch the Member automatically, based on your current Matching Rules.
Note: Clearing the link only fixes this one Member record. If the wrong match happened because of duplicate or messy contact data, for example two Contacts sharing the same email, resolve that underlying data issue too, or the same Member is likely to link incorrectly again. Merging the duplicate records is often the right fix.
