Creating Leads and Contacts from Emma Audience Members

What is the Create Rule feature?

The Create Rule allows Emma to automatically create new Salesforce Contact or Lead records when an Emma Audience member doesn't already exist in Salesforce.

What are the Create Rule options?

OptionDescription
Don't Create (Default)No Salesforce records are created from Emma
Create ContactCreates a new Contact record
Create LeadCreates a new Lead record

Does Emma create Contacts/Leads for all Audience members?

No. Emma only creates Contacts or Leads for Active members. Members with the following statuses are excluded:

  • Opt-out
  • Unsubscribed
  • Deleted

What conditions must be met to create a Contact or Lead?

All of the following must be true:

  1. A Create Rule is configured (Contact or Lead)
  2. No existing Contact or Lead matches the email address
  3. The Emma member status is Active
  4. No Salesforce ID is already mapped in Emma
  5. The email wasn't recently renamed in Emma

Can I set default field values when records are created?

Yes. You can configure default field values (like Lead Source = "Emma") in the Emma Account settings. These values are applied automatically when new records are created.

Can I specify a Record Type for created records?

Yes. You can select a specific Record Type in the Emma Account configuration, and all created Contacts or Leads will use that Record Type.

Are Subscription (Emma Audience) records still created for non-active members?

Yes. The Subscription__c junction records are created/updated for all Emma members regardless of status. This maintains the complete sync between Emma and Salesforce. The Active-only filter only applies to creating new Contact or Lead records.
