If an audience uses Double Opt-In, who gets confirmation emails?
When subscribing Salesforce contacts to a Mailchimp audience, it's worth knowing how Double Opt-In affects that process. If an audience has Double Opt-In enabled, Mailchimp will send a confirmation email to anyone who is newly subscribed — and that includes members added through our app.
The Solution
When you add members via our app's components, actions, or Data Wizards, we respect the Double Opt-In setting on that audience. Those members will receive a confirmation email from Mailchimp before they are considered fully subscribed.
Double Opt-In is audience-specific, so you can leave it enabled on audiences where people self-manage their subscription, and disable it on others where that isn't needed.
If you're loading an audience with existing Salesforce contacts who have already confirmed their permission, you can temporarily disable Double Opt-In to avoid sending them a new confirmation email. To do this:
- Go to the audience in Mailchimp
- Select Edit Audience and turn off Double Opt-In
- Run your Data Wizard or component sync
- Re-enable Double Opt-In when the import is complete
This prevents contacts from receiving an unnecessary confirmation email when you already have their consent on file.
