Do you store all email activity?

By default, we don't store Mailchimp member activity as records in Salesforce. Instead, we display the latest information from Mailchimp via components you can add to your Lightning pages. If you'd like records in Salesforce, you can optionally enable stored email activity and choose which types (sent, open, click, etc.) to sync and how far back to go. Learn more about email activity storage settings.

On a single Mailchimp member, a subscriber may take the same action multiple times, such as opening an email more than once or clicking more than one link (or the same link repeatedly). By default, we sync only ten (10) instances of that activity each time the primary sync runs. This helps save storage and reduce unnecessary clutter in your data.

The Solution

If you need more repeated activity synced to Salesforce, we offer three configurable batch sizes in Maintenance advanced settings:

  • Max repeat opens stored per email
  • Max clicks stored per email
  • Max repeat bounces stored per email

Increasing these settings, up to a limit of one thousand (1,000), will create records for more instances of any repeated activity. Setting a value to (1) will only bring in the first activity of that type for the recipient since the last primary sync.

Note:

  • Changing these batch sizes only applies moving forward. To update existing activity records, you will need to refresh email activity, as described in email activity storage settings.
  • If you are attempting to pull in all activity, we recommend setting the batch number high.
  • The batch limit applies each time the sync runs, limiting the activity records created per recipient per campaign for just that sync.
  • The click limit isn't only for repeat clicks on the same link, the activities created could include 10 different link clicks for that campaign.
