Why do I see error EALL:15 "Unexpected character ('<' (code 60))" or similar during import or primary sync?

Seeing a EALL:15: Unexpected character ('<' (code 60)) or similar error on a scheduled Subscriber Import or primary sync can be alarming, but it usually points to a brief, one-off issue rather than a problem with your configuration.

This error means our integration received a response it couldn't parse as valid JSON, typically because Campaign Monitor returned an empty, incomplete, or HTML-formatted response (like an error page) instead of the expected data. This is most commonly caused by a brief API hiccup or an interrupted connection on Campaign Monitor's side during that specific run.

If your subsequent import or sync runs have completed without issue, this is a good sign the event was transient. No changes to your Salesforce configuration are needed. If the error continues to appear across multiple runs, reach out to support so we can investigate further.
